HONG KONG AND MACAU, April 11, 2007. Crown Macau, the contemporary and luxurious hotel and casino development pioneering the six star experience in Macau, has today announced the final countdown to the public opening on Wednesday 9 May 2007. This will be followed by a VIP gala event on Saturday 12 May 2007.
“After two years of construction it’s immensely gratifying to reach this important milestone. Besides completing construction of the complex, all of our 4,000 staff are in the final stages of their training in time for our opening next month,” said Greg Hawkins, CEO of Crown Macau. “I consider this to be an achievement in itself and a clear reflection of Crown Macau’s commitment to provide an engaging and challenging work environment that fosters the development of all its employees.” As part of the lead up to the exciting opening, Crown Macau also announced the launch of its Where great things happen brand campaign spearheaded by a mini-movie television commercial featuring international star Chow Yun-Fat. For a development positioned at the top of an increasingly competitive market, the creative direction for the mini-movie was motivated by a desire to achieve something out of the ordinary and something that has never been seen before from any other hotel and casino in Macau. The film was fashioned to be mysterious and intriguing and above all to make a statement about the uniqueness of the Crown Macau property.

Rather than creating a standard retail-driven commercial, a story was developed around the star actor enjoying the hallmarks of the Crown Macau experience - unparalleled service and contemporary elegance.
The film features Chow Yun-Fat in a fantasy journey through Crown Macau, encountering a mysterious woman played by Elyse Sewell from Series 1 of America’s Next Top Model. Enroute he enjoys the opulence of an exclusive private villa, top tier fine dining and the serenity of a world-class spa, before returning to reality with the unforgettable experience resonating in his mind.
Lawrence Ho, Co-Chairman and CEO of Melco PBL Entertainment (Macau) Limited, inspired the concept for the mini-movie. “The mini-movie format is the perfect formula to make Crown Macau stand out from the crowd. The end result is something I’m very proud of,” he said. “Commercials of this length are rarely used in TV advertising and this, coupled with the star value and cinematography used in the Where great things happen campaign, will no doubt become a talking point for the audiences across the region.”
Chow Yun-Fat was the perfect choice for the star role. Chow is one of Hong Kong’s most famous sons and has a huge following in the local market and international recognition built over a 30-year acting career. His list of credits includes the international hit Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and he will also appear in the soon to be released Pirates of the Caribbean: At the World’s End. Chow is not only instantly recognizable amongst the target audience, his screen presence adds a sense of sophistication and style to the film.
“TV commercials are not something I do very often,” said Chow Yun Fat. “But when Lawrence Ho shared his vision and passion for this project with me, it was readily apparent this was something unique. He called it a ‘mini-movie’ and that’s exactly what it is.”
The mini-movie was directed by internationally acclaimed director Matthias Zentner. Respected for his European taste for refined visuals and cinematic style, Zentner strives for aesthetic perfection in every frame. The craft of Zentner’s work can be found throughout the piece with its brooding sensuality and innovative shot selection.
Where great things happen was shot at the Moonstar Studio in Bangkok, one of the largest film studios in Asia. The scale of the production was equivalent to a full-length movie with 170 crew members behind the scenes and 180 rolls of film shot. Pre-production started three months prior to shooting. Four full-size sets were built along with one miniature set and a water curtain, through which the hero drives his luxury sports car to arrive at Crown Macau. The water curtain alone took one month to build and test to deliver the required effect to perfection.
The 90-second mini-movie will premier simultaneously across major channels in Hong Kong, Macau and Southern China on Thursday 12 April. In Hong Kong and Macau the mini-movie will be broadcast at 2100 on TVB Jade, TVB Pearl, ATV Home, Cable TV News Channel, Cable TV Entertainment Channel and TDM.
In Southern China, audiences can watch the mini-movie from 2030 on Phoenix TV, Guangdong Zhujiang TV, Guangzhou Cable TV (TVB Jade), Guangdong Nanfang TV - TVB Jade, Shenzhen TV 1 (City), Shenzhen TV 4 (Entertainment), Shenzhen TV 7 (Public), Shenzhen Cable TV (TVB Jade). Print, outdoor and online advertising will be used to complement the television exposure. The mini-movie will also air in selected cinemas alongside upcoming blockbusters Spiderman 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean: At the World’s End.
